In this post-apocalyptic sci-fi story, humanity has been devastated by the bizarre, giant humanoids known as the Titans. Little is known about where they came from or why they are bent on consuming mankind. Seemingly unintelligent, they have roamed the world for years, killing everyone they see. For the past century, what's left of the human race has hidden in a giant, three-walled city. People believe their 100-metre-high walls will protect them from the Titans, but the sudden appearance of an immense Titan is about to change everything. (Cover and synopsis from Goodreads.)

FTC Disclaimer: I borrowed copies of these books from my library. I was in no way compensated for this review.

SPOILER WARNING: This review covers Attack on Titan Volumes 13-17. It may contain slight spoilers for these and previous volumes.
But if you’d like a spoiler-free overview of the entire series, check out my video below!

As with all my mini reviews, I’m just going to share some of my notes:

Volume 13
  • Lol, there’s a panel where Isayama kind of acknowledges certain aspects of a couple of characters. It’s like he’s nodding, going, “Yeah, I know this character is bossy, and this one is whiny. Get over it.”
  • Sasha!
  • Lol, Eren is a neat freak. And a control freak.
  • Levi is a jerk and he bullies Hange A LOT.
  • Krista’s backstory is so sad!
  • 4 stars
Volume 14
  • This story about Erwin as a kid is interesting.
  • Gross. This one part is making me sick and anxious.
  • I’m actually agreeing with Jean for once!
  • Levi’s a BAMF, even if he is a jerk.
  • I love how this series isn’t just about titans attacking people, but there’s so much more involved. War, politics, manipulation, deceit, etc.
  • Did Levi just block a gun shot with his sword? BAMF
  • OMG I gasped loudly at one part.
  • WTF?
  • 4.5 stars
Volume 15
  • My poor Armin.
  • I gasp loudly every time my bby Armin is in danger.
  • I love this part where Levi says “But whoever wins here will decide what’s in the history books.” SO TRUE.
  • It’s so great when the good guys trick the bad guys.
  • Does handcuffing a one-armed man even really serve a purpose? I mean, sure, if you want to handcuff his one arm to something else. But just as a restraint while he’s walking around? I don’t see the point.
  • Armin is SO SMART. ILY.
  • WAIT, WTF?
  • I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!
  • 5 stars
Volume 16
  • OMG and I thought that stuff in Volume 14 was messed up. This is MESSED. UP.
  • Hmm, a bit of background for Mikasa, but she’s still such a mystery.
  • Oh, shiz!
  • I ❤️ Armin and Hange!
  • Sasha’s got skills with that bow and arrow!
  • Some more major backstory to this world and why it is the way it is.
  • Whoa, crazy titan!
  • Levi is becoming nicer!
  • 3 stars. Can’t handle that really gross part and it brought the whole story down, frankly.
Volume 17
  • Eren, dude, you really have to get over this. Stop beating yourself up! Figuratively AND literally!
  • OMFG this titan is ENORMOUS.
  • Levi backstory!
  • I like all the details about what has changed because of certain things that happened.
  • Ooooh, who is this guy?
  • 4 stars.

I just love this series so much. Unfortunately in a couple of these volumes there were some things that I did not like AT ALL and I wish they had been left out. But I’ll just pretend they didn’t happen and go on loving Attack on Titan.

I also recently posted a video on YouTube where I discuss my love of Attack on Titan. It only contains one small spoiler, but it’s something that happens in the very first volume. Check it out!
