Top Ten Tuesday: Series I Probably Won’t Finish
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic. I’m a huge fan of lists, so this meme is right up my alley!

I’ve only read 2 books in this series, but my friend was giving away some of her books a few years ago and I snagged a whole bunch of this series. But I’ve recently set them aside to give away because I really don’t think I’m ever going to get around to reading them.

I read Beautiful Creatures years ago for my old book club and although I love that cover, I just didn’t love the book. And I really felt like I could tell what was going to happen in a lot of the sequels, so I really don’t think I’m ever going to finish this series.

I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo years ago for my old book club and I thought it was okay. I have seen all the movies, though, and I also started reading the graphic novels. I think I’ll probably just stick with the graphic novels and pass on the books, since I already know what happens. I hate to say that, because the books are often so much better than any adaptations, but I just don’t think I’ll ever get around to reading the rest of this original series. (Check out my review of the first two Millennium graphic novels!)

I had ISSUES with the first book in this series. And then I read the first novella and I liked it a lot better. But then when I started reading the second book I started having major issues again. I own all of the books on my kindle but I just don’t think I’ll ever finish them. (You can find my review of Shatter Me here, and my DNF review of Unravel Me here.)

This one has as much to do with the author as much as it does with me. L.J. Smith, author of The Vampire Diaries series, had her first Night World book published in 1996. There were to be 10 books in all, and the last one was supposed to come out around 1999, because the story had to do with Y2K. But the thing is, the last book NEVER CAME OUT. It’s STILL NOT OUT. There’s been a cover for it for years, but it’s NOT OUT. Now, I didn’t start reading the books until the late 2000s, when Simon Pulse repackaged the series into volumes, so I haven’t been waiting for this book for 15+ years like some readers, but still. I don’t remember too much about the series, and honestly, if the last book does come out I don’t know if I’ll be running to buy a copy anyway. It’s just rude to make your fans wait that long. If it’s never coming out, just tell them. They’ll be disappointed, but you won’t be stringing them along. Anyway, /end rant.

I couldn’t finish Obsidian. I think if I had read it when it first came out, I may have enjoyed it, but as it is, I just really don’t enjoy paranormal romances anymore. So I know I won’t enjoy the rest of the series. (You can find my DNF review of Obsidian here.)

Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope. (You can find out why all the nopes on my DNF review of City of Bones.)

Bird people, small birds living inside people’s chests, singing into each other’s mouths, among other NOPE things. (My review of Magonia.)

Another big NOPE. (Why nope? Read my review of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.)

I know this is more of a companion series, but I’m counting it. I didn’t hate Pushing the Limits, but I didn’t really like it all that much, either. It’s just not my kind of book. So I just know I won’t enjoy the companion novels. (My review of Pushing the Limits.)
So what bookish things have you quit or do you want to quit? Let me know, or leave a link to your TTT in the comments, and I’ll try to stop by your blog!

October 6, 2015 at 11:28 pmIt sounds as though you won't have any interest in the continuation of Steig Larson's series. I have grave doubts about the whole idea of someone finishing another writer's series, even though I know it can be done well — the James Bond books, for example.
