Top Ten Tuesday: TBR Since Before Blogging
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic. I’m a huge fan of lists, so this meme is right up my alley!
This week’s topic is Ten Books That Have Been On Your Shelf (Or TBR) From Before You Started Blogging That You STILL Haven’t Read Yet. I started The Overstuffed Bookcase on January 14, 2012, and I thought there would be plenty of books on my physical shelves from before then that I still haven’t read, but I only found 10! Then I looked on my Goodreads To Read shelf and there are more than 250 books on there that I added before I started blogging. So I decided to just list the 10 on my physical shelves.
The Compound by S.A. Bodeen
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta
Life As We Knew It, The Dead and the Gone, and This World We Live In by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
Writing this list has reminded me of three things: 1) I really need to read these books, 2) I need to cull my Goodreads shelves, and 3) The bookish/blogging community is the direct cause of my Goodreads shelves becoming 8 times the size of what they were before I started blogging. Yeah, I definitely need to cull my Goodreads shelves. And probably my physical shelves, too.
So what books do you still have sitting on your shelf, waiting to be read, from before you started blogging?Let me know, or leave a link to your TTT in the comments, and I’ll try to stop by your blog!

August 23, 2016 at 9:55 amI’ve been meaning to read FInnikin on the Rock for years, yet it still sits on my shelves as well! You have an interesting and well-rounded list, I hope you get to some of these. :) The Lord of the Rings was a little intimidating when I first started reading the trilogy, but it is so worth it and I hope you enjoy it when you read it!
Book blogging has also completely overfilled my Goodreads shelves… it’s gotten to the point where there’s so many that I don’t even know where to start! Great post!

August 23, 2016 at 11:21 amI’ve heard such good things about Finnikin and that entire series. And I LOVED Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. One of these days I’ll get around to reading it and all these other books! :)

August 23, 2016 at 9:58 amI’ve wanted to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy too! I’ll get there (I keep telling myself). Also, I laughed that you blame the book-blogging community for your overstuffed Goodreads shelf. I hear you, my friend. lol!

August 23, 2016 at 11:22 amI’m so glad I’m not alone in my lack of reading LOTR! I’ll read them someday! And yeah, I mean, joining the bookish community just makes your TBR list grow exponentially! Lol.

August 23, 2016 at 10:17 amWHAT! You have not read The Lord of the Rings? How? I’m not a huge Tolkein fan but you must read them! But I am totally with you on needing to read a lot of these. And making my list also made me realize I need to cull my shelves. I have lots of books I will probably not be rereading. Make room for those I will, right?

August 23, 2016 at 11:19 amI know! I don’t know how I call myself a book nerd without reading LOTR! I’ve read The Hobbit, if that counts? Lol. I will read them one day. I tried back when I was in college but that was the very end of my “Dark Days” when I didn’t read. I was coming out of those Dark Days but I think LOTR was just a bit too heavy for me at that point. One of these days I’ll get to them!

August 23, 2016 at 12:52 pmYeah the book blogging community is totally to blame for my ridiculous TBR. I keep adding so much… books I never would have known about lol. And Finnikin of the Rock sounds good. I just saw that one on another list too…

August 23, 2016 at 3:05 pmI tried to read LOTR when I was in 8th grade for a book report. My English teacher gave us a free-for-all to pick whatever we wanted, so, ridiculously overachieving me that I am/was, I picked Fellowship of the Ring. I think 20 pages in I realized I was in over my head. But, rather than admit defeat to my Teacher Who Probably Knew I Was Going to Fail, I may have let my aunt help me write the report. *grins*
The Susan Beth Pfeffer books are great. Well, the first one is. I haven’t read beyond that one. And Finnikin. Though, Finnikin is a very different Marchetta style than Jellicoe Road.
Good stuff. I might have to look and see what’s on my shelves that would fit this TTT. I imagine most of them are adult mystery ala James Patterson and Sue Grafton.

August 24, 2016 at 5:25 amSherlock Holmes! I should have put that one on my list this week too LOL! Finnikin of the Rock is another one I own (was gifted actually) and have yet to read! I have read Shiver though and enjoyed it more than I expected – same goes for LotR :)

August 27, 2016 at 6:11 pmI can’t believe you only have ten physical books that you haven’t read. I have about ten times that! I hope you enjoy The Lord of the Rings. It’s an awesome series!

August 27, 2016 at 7:07 pmOh, no, I have close to 300 books that I own and haven’t yet read. The 10 I listed here are just the ones I haven’t read that I’ve owned since before I started blogging in January of 2012. :)
