April 2016 Readathon: Starting Line

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-A-Thon is a bi-annual readathon, hosted at 24hourreadathon.com, where readers and bloggers get together and read for 24 hours, sharing their experience with others.

Hi, everyone!

The readathon starts at 5am my time, and I like my sleep, so here it is, 3 and a half hours into readathon and I’m just now getting started. But that’s okay. How is everyone else doing so far this morning?

So here is my book pile for this readathon (subject to change, as always):

Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel
Low, Vol. 1: The Delirium of Hope by Rick Remender & Greg Tocchini
Injection, Vol. 1 by Warren Ellis, et al.
The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 1: The Faust Act by Kieron Gillen, et al.
Saga, Vol. 2, Vol. 3, Vol. 4, and Vol. 5 by Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Eric Shanower, et al.

(Not pictured) The Walking Dead, Compendium Two by Robert Kirkman – I’m almost done with this one, so I’ll be starting with it today.

So I’m sticking with graphic novels/graphic memoirs this time around. I am such a slow reader so graphic novels always make me feel more accomplished during readathons. But if I get tired of them, I may switch it up and start a full-length novel. My only real goal this readathon is just to read as much as I can, and to cheer for at least a couple of hours, since I’m a cheerleader for the first time!

And here are my answers to the Opening Meme:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Washington State, USA

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I’m not sure. I think I’m really looking forward to each and every book on my pile! I’ll probably read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz graphic novel first because it’s a library book and I’ll want to make sure I get that one done.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I just started an exercise routine and I’m eating more healthy foods so anything that will help keep me awake and reading!

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I’m a stay-at-home mom of two boys, I play pool on a couple of teams (and have done so for about 14 years), and as I stated in #3, I just started a new exercise routine and it’s kicking my butt. I danced for 12 years as a kid, so I’m doing the new Cize exercise routine and I thought that maybe I’d do well with it, but since I’m so out of shape, I’m getting the moves down but having trouble having the stamina to complete the whole session. But I’m determined and I’m going to keep going, so I’ll be doing that routine at some point during the day today. Anyone else doing Cize right now, too? Let me know and we can cheer each other on!

5) If you participated in the last readathon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first readathon, what are you most looking forward to?

I didn’t participate in the last readathon, but I have participated in several before. This year my main goal is just to read as much as I can, which honestly feels really liberating. This is also my first time to be a cheerleader, so that will be different, and I’m looking forward to it!

Good luck to everyone who’s participating!  I hope to visit lots of people who are participating today!

Graphic novels are a great idea for a readathon. Hope you enjoy all your reads!
