Sundays in Bed With…Alanna: The First Adventure

Sundays in Bed With… is a meme/feature started by my friend Kate at Midnight Book Girl, where we can highlight the book that we’re spending the day in bed reading (or the one we wish we could be reading all day in bed!).

I’m hoping to spend the day in bed with…

I’m not a football fan, so today I’ll be blogging and reading instead of watching the big game. And that is totally okay with me! :)

I started a book club in my area for adults who like to read YA and after TONS of deliberation, I settled on Alanna being our first book selection. I read it a few years ago with my old book club and I totally forgot that it is actually more of a Middle Grade book, or a very young YA. But oh, well. So far I’ve had only a few people join the group and none of them have RSVP’d to go to the first meeting (which is in less than 2 weeks) so it may just be me having some dinner and wine by myself. Who knows…

What are you spending this Sunday in bed with?  Let me know in the comments, or leave a link to your post if you’re participating in this meme and I’ll try to stop by your blog!

It did take me awhile to build up a book club, because people will join, but that first meeting always seems hard for people to get to. Although, I did beg one of my NaNoWriMo friends to come, and it was at a cafe. So I had like… 3 or 4 people show up? But it fluctuated wildly that first year or so- depending on the book. Plus, awesome people would come, and I thought they had fun, but then I never saw them again. Still, totally worth it. I think in the beginning, I use to put up polls to vote on the book, or go with themes for the month (a romancey type book for February, a Irish book for March, a scary book for October, a beach book for July, a banned book for September, etc). Have patience, if you read, they will eventually come!

I just recently read this one – it's funny how the series starts out like MG but grows into YA and then adult. Anyway, if I lived close to you I would join your book club! Hell, if I lived close to any bloggers/readers and not in the middle of nowhere, I might start one up myself haha! Good luck with the club and with your book!! xx

Building a book club is a great idea. Good luck!
