April 2015 Readathon: Updates & Mini Challenges
Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-A-Thon is a bi-annual readathon, hosted at 24hourreadathon.com, where readers and bloggers get together and read for 24 hours, sharing their experience with others.
Instead of writing several posts, I thought I’d just keep all my updates and mini challenges on one page, with separate posts for the Opening Meme and the End of Event Meme.
Thoughts on current read: I’m enjoying The Girl Who Owned a City graphic novel because I LOVE the novel it’s based on, but it seems like the graphic novel has added material. Or I just don’t remember the book that well.
Pages read: 120
Total pages read so far: 120
Amount of time spent reading: 1 hour, 20 minutes
Total time spent reading so far: 1 hour, 20 minutes
Notes: Reasons I didn’t get much reading done for these 6 hours: woke up halfway into hour 2, fed baby, fed Kiddo 1, fed myself, watched kids while hubs ran to store, etc.
Hours 7-12
Thoughts on current read: I’m definitely enjoying Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, and I really love Simon!
Pages read: 240
Total pages read so far: 360
Amount of time spent reading: 2 hours, 5 minutes
Total time spent reading so far: 3 hours, 25 minutes
Notes: Also done during hours 7-12: ate lunch, ate 2 snacks, fed baby, spent a little time on social media. I think this will be my most successful readathon in terms of books finished, because I usually finish one and start another.
Mid-Event Survey
1. What are you reading right now?
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
2. How many books have you read so far?
3 completed, started on my 4th!
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I’m such a slow reader that I doubt I’ll finish Simon. The other books I read earlier were a short story and two graphic novels, so that’s why I was able to finish them already. Simon is 303 pages long and I’m probably not going to be able to stay awake past hour 18 (plus, I can’t be sleeping all day tomorrow because the hubs has a thing and I’ll have to take care of the kiddos). But I’ve heard such good things about Simon that I’m looking forward to reading more of it!
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Yes. The family is always an interruption, but that’s okay. I just have to take over parenting duty every once in a while, but overall, the hubs has been on duty so that I can read!
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
I’m not sure if anything surprises me about it anymore, since I’ve done several of these now! Well, maybe it surprises me that I always forget the damn snacks! ;)
Thoughts on current read: I’m really enjoying it!
Pages read: 61
Total pages read so far: 421
Amount of time spent reading: 1 hour, 25 minutes
Total time spent reading so far: 4 hours, 50 minutes
Notes: I slowed down a lot during these hours. I took a large break (like 2 hours) and held/fed the baby and watched Netflix while the hubs and Kiddo 1 went to the store. I also had dinner and read to Kiddo 1 before he went to bed. Plus I was just naturally slowing down with my reading and getting very tired. I went to bed just at the end of hour 18.
Hours 19-24

April 26, 2015 at 2:24 pmAndrea, you had a fantastic Readathon!!! I meant to stay up late and cheer since I was away all day at KissCon, but I just crashed at Hour 18. Even a cup of coffee couldn't keep me awake. But I did finish 3 teeny-tiny books, so that felt like a victory. I'm glad Jeremy was able to watch the kiddos most of the day so that you could have some rest and reading!
