2014 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon: Mash Up
The Book Blogger Love-a-Thon is an event where we can share our love for our fellow book bloggers! The event is hosted by Alexa at Alexa Loves Books and Katelyn at Kate’s Tales of Books and Bands.
This mini challenge is a mash up, where we mash up our love of books with a non-bookish passion or hobby.
I was having a little trouble with this one, since my hobbies are reading, writing, watching TV, playing video games and playing pool. I guess I could have come up with characters I’d love to play pool with, but there just aren’t that many characters that play pool.
So instead, I thought I’d come up with my dream book club. I just recently moved from Oklahoma to Washington state and one of the things I miss the most is my book club. Those girls are some of my best friends and we just had such a fun time! We’d meet each month, talk about the book that we’d read, eat dinner, drink some wine, play board games or watch a movie, and just hang out. It was so much fun and I really miss those girls and our book club meetings.
So here it is, My Dream Book Club (With Fictional Characters):
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling)
Of course. Hermione would be the girl that has basically already read everything, but she’d enjoy book club so much that she’d probably love to reread the books she’d already read. And she’d have a wide range of taste of everything from classical to contemporary. I think she’d like non-fiction and historical fiction the most.
Tyrion Lannister (A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin)
I think Tyrion might outshine Hermione as the most intellectual of the club. He’d have read all the histories of every country, fictional and non-fictional, and he’d be able to quote all the philosophers. I think he might have trouble with a lot of mainstream fiction, though, unless it contained dragons and/or a character who outsmarted everyone with their wit.
Cather Avery (Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell)
Cath would be the one who got everyone hooked on the latest fantasy series. She’d share her fan fiction with us at every meeting, and she’d be up to date on all the most recent YA publications. And she could bring Levi along with her, if she wanted.
Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls TV series)
Rory has read everything, just like Hermione, but I feel like she’d gravitate more to the current classics rather than the typical, older classics. She’d love poetry and novels in free verse, and she’d be the one who could stay up the longest, talking books for hours upon hours. She’d probably supply us with the best junk food, and she could totally bring Jess with her.
Trevor (Pivot Point series by Kasie West)
Trevor doesn’t read much, except for comic books and graphic novels. So he might not be into a lot of the same books as everyone else. But I’d love to have him be a part of the club, because I personally want to read more comic books and graphic novels, and he could also show us the comic book that he’s working on.
So that’s my dream book club, for now. I’m sure there are lots of other fictional characters out there that I’ve forgotten, or that I haven’t yet read, so they can join later!

February 16, 2014 at 6:12 pmThis turned out so great Andrea! I wish I had a book club near me too but in a way I guess it's kind of nice we can have our online book club ;) I loved reading about why you pick each one for your club; they all bring something different to the table!

February 16, 2014 at 6:34 pmI really want to read Pivot Point! Also, Cath would be a wonderful addition to the book club, I could see her and Hermione talking about Simon Snow and Harry Potter together! I need to read A Song of Ice and Fire, too. I have all the books, so I'll definitely be starting the series soon. Rory Gilmore would be really interesting to talk to about books, and she'd definitely have some thoughtful comments on the current read. I love this idea, it's so unique and fun! Great book club!

February 16, 2014 at 8:28 pmThis was a clever post. I'm so with you on Hermione Granger and Tyrion Lannister, they would make amazing book club members! I'd add Sam Roth from the Wolves of Mercy Falls series too.

February 16, 2014 at 8:49 pmSuch a good idea! I think Cath would be super fun to have in a book club. I might need some less intense people in my club; can't have them being angry if we drink more wine than talk about books. Haha!

February 16, 2014 at 8:57 pmThis would be the most interesting book club ever! I can only image the arguments Hermoine and Tyrion would get in to, while Trevor sketched quietly in the corner, haha
