Top Ten Tuesday: 2013 New-To-Me Authors
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic. I’m a huge fan of lists, so this meme is right up my alley!
This week’s topic is Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013. Here’s my list, in alphabetical order by the authors’ last names. (All photos from Goodreads.)
Ernest Cline – Ready Player One was one of my absolute favorite reads of the year. And I got to meet Mr. Cline at YABFest, and he was really cool! He asked me whether I was a bigger fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, or Firefly. I said Star Wars or Firefly, and then he wrote “To Andrea, Browncoats Forever!” in my book when he signed it! Very cool guy!
Gayle Forman – I just recently (like a week and a half ago) read If I Stay and Where She Went. I’ve had them on my shelves for years and yet I just hadn’t gotten around to reading them. But I loved them and can’t wait to read more of Forman’s books!
Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner – I of course count these two as separate authors, but seeing as the only book I’ve read by them is These Broken Stars, which they co-wrote, I just kind of had to put them together for the purpose of this post. But These Broken Stars was definitely one of my favorite books of the year and I need to read more by these authors ASAP!
Sarah J. Maas – Another one that I can’t believe I didn’t read earlier. Throne of Glass was amazing! And I can’t believe I haven’t read Crown of Midnight yet! I put it on the list of possible books for my brother and sister-in-law to get me for Christmas, so fingers crossed! And if I don’t get it then, I’ll just have to go get myself soon!
Elizabeth Norris – Someone described Unraveling as X-Files meets Veronica Mars, and man, that is a good description, but it’s just so much more awesome than that. And this is another book that I can’t believe I haven’t read the sequel yet! Yeesh, I need some serious gift cards this Christmas so I can buy some of these books ASAP!
Diana Peterfreund – Diana Peterfreund is definitely an auto-buy author for me now. I’ve read both For Darkness Shows the Stars and Across a Star-Swept Sea and LOVED both of them! I need more Peterfreund in my life. Maybe I’ll see if I can find some of her other series when I’m out buying all these books I obviously need.
Veronica Rossi – My husband actually read Under the Never Sky before I did, and he loved it so much that at BEA I got Veronica Rossi to sign a copy of Through the Ever Night to him instead of me. Now he’s read TtEN and I still haven’t, even though I…um, I mean my husband…owns a copy. That will be a definite must-read for 2014.
Rainbow Rowell – I didn’t put this list into ranking order, because seriously, these are some of the best authors out there right now, and how can you rank them? But Rainbow Rowell, even though I’ve only read Eleanor & Park so far, has got to be at least in my top 3 favorite authors that I’ve read this year. She’s just that good. Fangirl is also on that list of possible books for my brother and sister-in-law to get me for Christmas, and I’ll definitely be buying it really soon if I don’t get it as a present!
Maggie Stiefvater – I have owned Shiver for years, but I just haven’t gotten around to reading it. But then I got The Raven Boys from my book club Christmas party last year, and then one of the girls decided to pick it one month this year for us to read for book club, so I FINALLY got around to reading a Stiefvater! And I’m so glad I did. I bought The Dream Thieves when I saw her at Austin Teen Book Festival in September, and I’ll definitely be reading that soon, and I will get to Shiver one of these days!
Who were your favorite New-to-You authors you read this year? Let me know, or leave a link to your TTT in the comments, and I’ll try to stop by your blog!
