Oct. 2013 Readathon: Updates & Mini Challenges

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-A-Thon is a bi-annual readathon, hosted at 24hourreadathon.com, where readers and bloggers get together and read for 24 hours, sharing their experience with others.

Instead of writing several posts, I thought I’d just keep all my updates and mini challenges on one page, with separate posts for the Introductory Questionnaire and the End of Event Meme.

Hours 1-6

Book(s) read: None
Thoughts on current read: No thoughts: I haven’t started yet today! Ack!
Total books read so far:  None

Total time spent reading so far:  None

Notes:  I got up around hour 3, wrote my Starting Line post, then did some book spine poetry.  Then the hubs got up around hour 5 and I talked him into going out for breakfast so I could fuel up.  The restaurant was super busy so we didn’t get back until hour 7!  Yeesh!  But now I’m all ready to start!

Hours 7-12

Book(s) read:  None finished
Thoughts on current read:   I’m really enjoying Across a Star-Swept Sea!
Total books read so far:  None finished

Pages read:  109. Sad.
Total pages read so far:  109.
Amount of time spent reading:  3.5 hours
Total time spent reading so far:  3.5 hours

Notes:  Next time I really need to make sure that I have quicker reads in my pile for readathon.  I am really loving the book I’m reading, but it is such a heavy read and I’m already a super slow reader, so it’s going very slowly.

Mid-Event Survey

1) How are you doing? Sleepy? Are your eyes tired?

Yeah, I’m kinda tired.  I need to snack again soon, or take a quick nap or something.

2) What have you finished reading?
Nothing yet!  :(

3) What is your favorite read so far?
All I’ve read today is Across a Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund, but I’m really enjoying it!

4) What about your favorite snacks?
I haven’t really snacked yet today. I had a big breakfast and kind of a small lunch, so I probably should snack soon.

5) Have you found any new blogs through the readathon? If so, give them some love!
I haven’t visited too many blogs yet, but here are the two that I’ve visited that are new to me:  My Never Ending Pile of Books and Leafing Through Life.

Mini Challenges

Spine Poetry hosted by Capricious Reader

I decided to go with BEA books this time, because I used so many books the last few times I did spine poetry that I didn’t want to make something too similar.  So here’s my poem:

Once,
we were entangled
across a star-swept sea,
counting by 7s,
unhooking the moon.
These broken stars scorched,
the burning sky broken.
The beginning of everything.
All our yesterdays,
reclaimed.

Other participants I’ve visited:

Prizes I’ve won:
None so far!

I totally encourage shorter reads for future read-a-thons! My momentum is through the roof right now but that has mostly to do with the fact that finishing my graphic novels helps me to feel more productive!
But I'm sure you are doing great so just keep it up!!!
