Waiting on Wednesday (27): Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
by Knopf Books for Young Readers
New York Times bestselling author David Levithan tells the based-on-true-events story of Harry and Craig, two 17-year-olds who are about to take part in a 32-hour marathon of kissing to set a new Guinness World Record—all of which is narrated by a Greek Chorus of the generation of gay men lost to AIDS.
While the two increasingly dehydrated and sleep-deprived boys are locking lips, they become a focal point in the lives of other teen boys dealing with languishing long-term relationships, coming out, navigating gender identity, and falling deeper into the digital rabbit hole of gay hookup sites—all while the kissing former couple tries to figure out their own feelings for each other.
This follow-up to the bestselling Every Day showcases David’s trademark sharp-witted, warm-hearted tales of teenage love, and serves as a perfect thematic bookend to David’s YA debut and breakthrough, Boy Meets Boy, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2013. (Cover and synopsis from Goodreads)
I am so excited for this book because I LOVE David Levithan, and I love that this book was inspired by true events. I’m sure this will be yet another beautifully written and poignant novel, as I’ve come to expect from David Levithan.

July 24, 2013 at 12:34 pmI love the concept behind this book. It's so very relevant to the times right now that it's sort of heartbreaking in that. I haven't read David Levithan yet (I know, I KNOW!) but I can already tell this will be important. I think LGBT novels should be required reading to develop tolerance in schools, but I'm probably a little biased. ; ) Great pick!!

July 25, 2013 at 4:28 pmI wasn't crazy about Every Day by Levithan. I loved what he did with challenging gender and sexuality ideas, but the story fell flat for me. I did, however, ADORE Will Grayson, Will Grayson, enough to make me want to pick up this book! I hadn't heard of this title before I read your post- so thank you!
