Top Ten Tuesday: Beginnings and Endings
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic. I’m a huge fan of lists, so this meme is right up my alley!
This week’s topic is Top Ten Favorite Beginnings/Endings In Books. So here’s my list, sorted into categories and in no particular order within those categories:
Great Opening Lines
“There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.”
“The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle.”
Great Opening/Early Scenes
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta Between the prologue and the first couple of chapters, this book made me realize that I was going to be a bawling idiot by the end.
Most of the Harry Potter series before this one started with a type of recap of the story thus far, but Order of the Phoenix just jumps right into the meat of the story, with action right away!
Action right from the beginning!!
This book starts off with a huge bang of craziness!
Great Endings
OMG, that ending! (My review to come soon!)
Yeah, I put this one up there for its great opening scene but the ending is just so great, too, and the book just comes full circle!
I LOVED this whole book but the ending is just so cool. Basically I was fangirling over most of the book, definitely the last third!
What are your favorite beginnings and/or endings in books? Let me know, or leave a link to your TTT in the comments, and I’ll stop by your blog!

July 30, 2013 at 4:36 pmGreat list! I especially agree with The Scorch Trials opening- I forgot how crazy that was- and Jellicoe Road's ending. I put it on my list too actually. I haven't read Eleanor and Park yet so that's definitely on my TBR list.
Belle of the Literati

July 31, 2013 at 10:16 amGreat list. Unraveling was great because it started with a bang and I'm happy to report that Unbreakable jumps right back into the story (though it has been super long since I've read so there was a bit of confusion for me lol).
