Under the Dome Readalong
I was on Twitter a few days ago (that thing is getting increasingly more addicting), and I saw that some bloggers were having a readalong for Stephen King’s Under the Dome. So after lots of peer pressure, I caved and decided to participate!
But really, though, I’m excited about this readalong! I’ve owned the book now since Borders was having its closing sales and I’ve been meaning to read it before the mini-series airs, so this is perfect timing! And luckily the event lasts 2 months so my slllooowww reading won’t be too much of a hindrance for me.
Here are the basics of the readalong:
- Hosted by Natalie at Coffee and a Book Chick (go to that link for all the official info!)
- Dates: May 25 (tomorrow!) – July 27
- Use the hashtag #domealong in tweets
- There will most likely be a twitter chat after the readalong about the mini-series
- This is a very informal event!
I’m pretty excited. I’ve been wanting to read this book for so long! I’ve only read one other book by Stephen King (Bag of Bones), which was okay, but I really love all the movies and shows I’ve seen that are based on his books. But I think Under the Dome sounds like much more of my kind of story and I’m looking forward to the readalong!
Are you participating in the readalong? Let me know and I’ll stop by your blog!

May 25, 2013 at 1:17 amI love SK. A lot. BUT have been a little gun shy. I tried to read one of his latest novels and it was HARD to get through. It was too descriptive and didn't stay focused. I felt like I was reading something written by a few different ppl. Does that make sense?
Trust me I feel like a sinner for say this. I am this close to hopping on the UTD read a long. I am stoked for the Shining pt2, but am scared. The Shining is my fave book and movie of ALL time and I'd hate to see the magic ruined.
What do you think? I am definitely in the "Old School" King fan club.

May 25, 2013 at 6:39 amStephen King is my favorite author. I've had this book since it was released, but it's so huge I've been putting it off. So glad I found this readalong, it was just the push I needed!

May 25, 2013 at 11:20 amSo glad you're joining! If you haven't read 11/22/63, do pick that one up. It's just *the* right book for new Stephen King readers to experience and become convinced on his masterful storytelling! Not to mention, it's a departure from what he's normally known for, namely horror, which I feel is the wrong way to categorize him. He can write some scary stuff, but man, oh, man, can he spin a yarn!
Under the Dome, I've heard, is more sci-fi than horror, so it should be interesting. I've heard the first couple hundred pages are tough, but I think everyone feels that way about a chunkster of a book. If we can make it through that initial section that I've heard is tough to go through, than we should be rewarded with one healthy and bizarre, fun story!
Welcome to the ride! :) Looking forward to your thoughts!!
