Readathon: Book Appetit! Mini Challenge

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-A-Thon is a bi-annual readathon, hosted at 24hourreadathon.com, where readers and bloggers get together and read for 24 hours, sharing their experience with others.

This challenge is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, and the rules are that we come up with a menu for our current book.  I think I’m late for this challenge, but I wanted to do it anyway.

This is a perfect challenge for me, because my current read is actually my pick for next month’s book club, and we do the same thing Sheila does in her book club–the hostess picks the book, then has the meeting at her house and is responsible for providing a meal for everyone, and we always try to make the meal something to do with the book.

I’m currently reading Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi.  So far they’ve eaten gruel, bread, cheese, berries, twigs, and some boar meat.  They may have eaten a few other things but I can’t remember.  They’ve had water and some kind of alcoholic drink called Luster.

So here’s my idea for a meal.  We start out with a salad, but I’m going to skip the berries because I’m not a fan of having fruit, berries, or nuts in salads.  We’ll stay with your typical chef salad.  Then we’ll move on to a hearty stew, a kind of melting pot of just lots of stuff thrown together.

My kind of salad.  Source.

That looks delicious!  Source.

And to drink you can choose from water, Luster or a new drink I’ve made up called Aether.  The Aether in this story is like a huge electrical storm (or at least that’s what I gather so far). So it’ll be a blue swirly looking drink, probably made with vodka, blue curacao and/or grenadine, and maybe some other things mixed in.  I imagine Luster would be a yellow or orange drink, because it’s supposed to taste “like spiced honey”.  I’m not quite sure what would be in it, but definitely some alcohol and whatever would make it taste like spiced honey.

I imagine the Aether drink would look something like this.  Source.

And I think the Luster drink would maybe look like this, but maybe a bit thicker?  Source.

And now I’m totally hungry.  What food and drinks would you guys serve to go along with your current read?  Let me know, or leave a link to your post for this mini challenge if you participated!

That is so cool! I've always wanted to be in a physical book club, lol I've joined blog book clubs but being in the same room and actually having things like this, having a meal and stuff related to the book sounds like so much fun! "I'm not a fan of having fruit, berries, or nuts in salads. " I love that in salads, they make it so much better, but that's my opinion. :D
I can't remember if they say what color the drink is, later on in the book, but I think it's so awesome that you made an aether drink.
