Waiting on Wednesday (19): The Ward by Jordana Frankel
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
by Katherine Tegen Books
Sixteen-year-old Ren is a daredevil mobile racer who will risk everything to survive in the Ward, what remains of a water-logged Manhattan. To save her sister, who is suffering from a deadly illness thought to be caused by years of pollution, Ren accepts a secret mission from the government: to search for a freshwater source in the Ward, with the hope of it leading to a cure.
However, she never expects that her search will lead to dangerous encounters with a passionate young scientist; a web of deceit and lies; and an earth-shattering mystery that’s lurking deep beneath the water’s rippling surface.
Jordana Frankel’s ambitious debut novel and the first in a two-book series, The Ward is arresting, cinematic, and thrilling—perfect for fans of Scott Westerfeld or Ann Aguirre. (Cover and synopsis from Goodreads)
I put this book on my “to-read” and “must-read” shelves on Goodreads a while back, and then kind of forgot about it until I saw it on another blogger’s WoW last week. And then I remembered how much I can’t wait to read this book! The cover is so amazing, and I love Scott Westerfeld, so the fact that he’s mentioned in the synopsis makes me really really excited to read this one! Plus the plot sounds so cool!
What book are you waiting on? Let me know, or leave a link to your WoW post in the comments, and I’ll stop by your blog!

March 7, 2013 at 6:24 amI just found this book today on Goodreads! The summary reminds me a bit of the upcoming Tracked by Jenny Martin, I suppose because the protagonist races and both have dystopian elements. They of course sound different in many respects, too. ;)
