Stacking the Shelves (12)
Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme, hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews, where bloggers can share the books and bookish items that we’ve bought, borrowed, or received each week.
This StS is for the past two weeks.
Purchased
So when I was in Austin for the Austin Teen Book Festival, I not only got some awesome books at the festival itself, but I also went to a Half Price Books (I see a bookstore and I just have to go in…) and got some books as well!
Half Price Books Purchases:
The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi*
Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Signed books purchased at ATBF12:
Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone
Origin by Jessica Khoury

Cool Swag
I also got some pretty cool swag over the past two weeks.
From ATBF12, I got two signed Time Between Us bookmarks and three stickers from Tamara Ireland Stone. (Thanks, Tamara!)
I also meant to meet up with Victoria Scott at ATBF12 but we never did see each other, but she was so sweet and sent me some signed bookmarks for The Collector. (Thanks, Victoria!)
Also, since I was a part of the Army of Ten, I got some cool swag from Gretchen McNeil that included signed bookmarks, a signed bookplate, and a cool Ten dog tag. (Thanks, Gretchen!)
I’m going to be keeping some of this cool swag for myself, but I also plan on giving away some of it in the near future, so be on the lookout for that!

*This copy of Shatter Me is interesting. I purchased it on the 28th of September, got back to the hotel room where I was staying for ATBF12, and then found a piece of paper inside the front cover. I then realized that this was a review copy sent to someone, and that someone had SOLD it to Half Price Books. Now, to be fair, that book has been out for a while, but this is a new copy with a new cover. Also, to be fair, the book did not say ANYWHERE on it that it was not to be resold, and it even had a price and bar code on the back cover. But that paper in the book said that it wasn’t supposed to be released until October 1st.
So I guess it was wrong of me to buy the book, but I really didn’t realize that this version with the new cover wasn’t yet available. And I guess Half Price Books shouldn’t have sold it, but I really doubt that they realized it was a review copy, since it did have a price and a bar code on the back. But when I worked at a bookstore, I leafed through the books that were brought to us to be sold back, and I would have found that piece of paper. Although, back then I wasn’t a book blogger and I probably wouldn’t have realized what that piece of paper meant.
But that person who got the book for review should NOT have sold it to Half Price Books. I do know that much. It’s not cool, people. These authors and publishers give you FREE copies of books and you turn around and sell them? It’s just so wrong. Host a giveaway on your blog, or if you don’t have a blog, pass the book on to a friend, or donate the book to a library or a children’s home or domestic abuse center or something. Don’t make money off of something you got FOR FREE. I know that if I love this book, I’ll keep it, but if I don’t, I’ll be giving it away on the blog or giving it to a friend. I won’t be selling it, and I even paid for it. (Okay, enough of my soap box!)

What did you guys get this week? Let me know, or leave a link to your StS post (or IMM or any other alternative) in the comments and I’ll stop by your blog!

October 14, 2012 at 12:50 amShatter Me is awesome. I hate when people sell ARC's. They are review. If you don't want the arc, then do a giveaway or donate it to the library.

October 15, 2012 at 6:07 pmI really need to order Time Between Us. That looks like a fantastic read and I just love the cover. I really need to get on reading The Ghost & the Goth. I've got the first two, and they're small books. So I have no excuse to not read!
