Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon Begins!

Actually, it began 2 hours ago, but I didn’t wake up until about an hour and a half ago and then I had to have breakfast and spend some time with my family before starting this thing!

I wrote a post the other day, telling you all about my book pile and my goals for today, but those goals have changed.  I thought I was going to have The Amber Spyglass finished before today so that I could start on Blind Spot, but that didn’t happen.  I’m reading The Amber Spyglass for my His Dark Materials readalong with Jessie from The Daily Bookmark, and for some reason, I’m having a hard time getting into it.

So anyway, my goals for today have changed.  Now I hope to at least get through Chapter 26 of The Amber Spyglass.  I’d love to finish the book today, but I have a feeling I’ll get tired of it and pick up Blind Spot before I’m done with TAS.  I guess we’ll just see what happens!

Anyway, good luck to everyone and I’ll be visiting some blogs very soon! Oh, and if you’re not participating in this readathon, I apologize in advance for all my posts today–there will be quite a few.  I thought about just having one post that I update every so often, but I’d rather do several shorter posts than one HUGE post…  Hope everyone has a great day whether you’re participating or not!

[EDIT:  I posted the above before remembering that there was a fun kick-off survey, so I’ve added that below.]

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

I’m in the US, in Oklahoma.  It’s rainy and thundery today.  Which normally is great reading weather but my allergies are kicking in and I’m really hoping that we don’t lose power!  Keeping my fingers crossed!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Um, well, to tell the truth I’m looking forward to any book other than the one I’m reading right now, which is The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman.  It’s not a horrible book, but for some reason I just can’t get into it.  So it looks like I’ll be putting it on hold today because I probably won’t get a lot of it read…

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
You know, I forgot this aspect during the last readathon and I forgot about it again this time!  I think the hubs is going to be going to the grocery store today so hopefully he’ll pick me up something delicious.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Well, I’m a book blogger (I guess many of the people who do this readathon are!), a stay-at-home mom, a Harry Potter nerd, a Dr. Pepper addict, Nerdfighter and Whovian.  I’m going to be participating in NaNoWriMo for the 4th time next month and I’m very excited about it!  (If you like writing and you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, you should totally click on that link.)

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
Last April was my first readathon!  This time I’m writing fewer update posts, although I’m not going to do just one post that I update often–for some reason I want to do a few shorter posts rather than one long one.  Last time I did an update post every 3 hours and that was just too much time away from reading, so this time I’m going to do it every 4 hours, and if that seems like too much I’ll switch to every 6 hours for the second half.  Also this time around I kind of have certain books that are scheduled, that I really need to read, so my book pile isn’t as flexible as it was the last time.  This could really hurt my page count, but I need to get those books read, so it’ll just have to be that way this time around.

Good luck, everyone!

Good Luck Andrea! I finished Golden Compass this morning and I'm not sure how I felt about it! Hope your allergies calm down and let you get some reading done.

Boo for allergies! Yay for thunderstorms! I can't believe you forgot about snacks! Snacks are so much fun and they are delicious.

Sorry The Amber Spyglass isn't working for you right now, but hopefully whatever you decide to read will be awesome!!!

    Good luck today!
