Top Ten Tuesday (7): Unfinished Series

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic. I’m a huge fan of lists, so this meme is right up my alley!

This week’s topic is Top Ten Series I Haven’t Finished (because either you didn’t like them, you just have procrastinated, etc.)

I’ve split these ten up into different categories, and as always, these aren’t really in a specific, numbered order.  Also, some of the series I’ve listed are not yet complete, but I’ve included them because I’m not caught up to the most recent book in the series.

The Ones I Plan on Finishing ASAP

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass)

Of course I’ll be finishing this series soon, since I’m co-hosting the His Dark Materials Readalong and Giveaway with Jessie from The Daily Bookmark. If this is a series you’ve always wanted to read, or you haven’t yet finished it, why not join in our readalong?  It’s not too late to join, and we’d love to have you!  Plus, you could win a gift card!

I loved Glow when I read it last year, and I just got Spark so I hope to reread Glow soon (so I can refresh my memory and also write a review for this blog) and then get to Spark.  I do believe there will be at least one more book in the series, but I still want to get caught up!

Maze Runner by James Dashner (The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, The Kill Order)
I think that this series is complete, now that the prequel was published.  But I guess there could be more to the story.  I loved the first 3 books in the series, and can’t wait to read the prequel, The Kill Order!

Heist Society by Ally Carter (Heist Society, Uncommon Criminals, Perfect Scoundrels)
Perfect Scoundrels isn’t out yet, but I haven’t even read Uncommon Criminals yet.  Which is such a travesty because Hale is one of my book boyfriends!  I need to get to this one soon.  And I’m super excited to get to see Ally Carter this weekend at the Austin Teen Book Festival!  (Yes, I promise I’ll stop talking about the ATBF sometime after the event happens!)

The Ones I Really Want/Need to Finish, But It Might Be a While

The Wicked Years by Gregory Maguire (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men, Out of Oz)
I read Wicked back in like 1999 and have loved it ever since.  I know lots of people who loved the first book didn’t really enjoy the others, but I did.  I really want to read Out of Oz, which I got for Christmas last year, but I really want to reread the others first, because there are so many things that are intertwined between those books and I feel like I’d miss something if I didn’t. So hopefully one day soon I’ll get around to those!

Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, The Horse and His Boy, The Magician’s Nephew, The Last Battle)
I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a kid and LOVED it.  But I never got around to reading the others.  But I’ve purchased them all and I will get around to reading them sometime!

Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris (Dead Until Dark, Living Dead in Dallas, Club Dead, Dead to the World, Dead as a Doornail, Definitely Dead, All Together Dead, From Dead to Worse, Dead and Gone, Dead in the Family, Dead Reckoning, Deadlocked, Dead Ever After)
Dead Ever After is supposedly the last book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, and it’s supposed to come out next year.  I really enjoy this series (much more than True Blood, actually), but I’m happy that this series is coming to an end.  I haven’t yet read Deadlocked, but the last few books have been kind of disappointing.  I used to really look forward to reading these books right after they were published, but I haven’t even bought Deadlocked yet.  I might just wait until Dead Ever After comes out and read the whole series again.

Stephanie Plum by Janet Evanovich (One for the Money, Two for the Dough, Three to Get Deadly, Four to Score, High Five, Hot Six, Seven Up, Hard Eight, To the Nines, Ten Big Ones, Eleven on Top, Twelve Sharp, Lean Mean Thirteen, Fearless Fourteen, Finger Lickin’ Fifteen, Sizzling Sixteen, Explosive Eighteen, Notorious Nineteen)
I actually don’t know a whole lot about this series because I’ve only read two of the books.  But I did enjoy the ones I read and a friend of mine was getting rid of some of her books last year and I scored several of the books in this series.  So one of these days I’ll start the series up again!

The Ones I Might Get Around To Finishing…Someday

Millennium by Stieg Larsson (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest)
I read the first book in this series for my book club a couple of years ago, and while I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it enough to run out and read the others in the series.  But I’ve seen the 3 Swedish-version movies and enjoyed them, so I have the 2nd and 3rd books in my TBR list.  However, that list is HUGE, so who knows if I’ll ever get around to reading those books.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan (The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, The Last Olympian)
I read The Lightning Thief last year, and I did really enjoy it.  However, I don’t own any of the other books in the series and I have that huge TBR list so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get to these books any time soon.  But they are still on that TBR list!

So that’s my list!  Some honorable mentions:  Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore (I’ve only read the first one, but I plan on reading the others!) and The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien (I’ve read The Hobbit and started TLotR once but couldn’t get through it, but I want to give it another try!).

What series have you yet to finish?  Let me know, or leave a link to your TTT in the comments, and I’ll stop by your blog!

I LOOOVE His Dark Materials (and I've been trying to find time to participate in your readalong, but I have only read one book so far in september, because I have been doing homework non-stop). And finish Percy Jackson!!!! It's one of my favorite series!

I won Glow from Goodreads, and I started trying to read the first chapter, but I didn't really get into it. I'm going to try again sometime!

AS always, I fully encourage reading The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings!

I couldn't even finish the first chapter of Wicked, either, but I am going to see the musical in the near-ish future and hope to love it since I hear it's so different from the book!

Narnia is worth finishing. Percy Jackson is worth it, too. His Dark Materials is on my list. I think my daughter has been enjoying The Maze Runner, but it's hard to keep up with her reading! My top ten post:

I really need to sit and read The Golden Compass again since I've forgotten it and I need to read the series ASAP too.

Oooh, I've heard great things about Percy Jackson so I hope you finish since I have it to read ASAP too.

The Chronicles of Narnia and Wicked are two series I really need to get around to reading, but I am putting off until I have actually finished reading most of the series I read now! :)

The Dark Materials series is FANTASTIC! I definitely need to re-read that series at some point!

I agree with you on the Sookie Stackouse series (I actually mentioned it in my TTT post). She should have ended the series a few books back. I'm glad to hear that the series is finally coming to a close.

I read the Chronicles of Narnia a long time ago, but from what I remember they are worth reading!

I got the audio version of Golden Compass from the library this morning! I'll be listening to it in my car!

Ooo, I love Hist Dark Materials. The audiobooks are really wonderful – fantastic productions. If you like audiobooks, I recommend them highly.

I haven't yet read Heist Society, but I plan to soon. I have the book from the library.

I have read all the stephanie plum novels except 19. I really like the first 4 – they were so funny. And although I really like all the others, they just aren't as funny any more.

I hope you enjoy the rest of Hist Dark Materials.

You so need to read Uncommon Criminals, the next book comes out this spring I think, and it's a cute read! I enjoyed the books so much better than True Blood, in fact I stopped watching the show, but the later books leave something to be desired so I'm glad she's wrapping it up next year.

I've been procrastinating so much on finishing The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's nest. I just can't get into it for some reason.

    Excellent List!
