Book Superlative Saturday is a meme hosted by Kayla at Bengal Reads. Each week Kayla picks a superlative (like the ones from your high school yearbook: “Most Likely to Succeed” or “Class Clown”), and we can pick which characters or books we think fall into those categories.
This week’s superlative is: Biggest Literary Jerk
I know I’ve read plenty of books that have jerks in them, but the first one that comes to mind is Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter series. He’s just such a despicable, bigoted man, and he, unlike other members of his family and other major “bad” characters in the series, never was redeemed. Plus, he was so horrible to Dobby! Sorry, Lucius, in my literary yearbook you don’t get the “Best Hair” or “Coolest Cane” award, you get “Biggest Jerk.” Maybe if you’d felt a little remorse for your actions, you might have gotten something better, hmm?
So, who would you pick? Let me know in the comments, or leave a link if you participated in the meme and I’ll stop by your blog!

June 2, 2012 at 8:06 amI completely agree with Lucius. He has no redeeming qualities and he's not even a badass bad guy because he's so afraid. He's one of those "I only pick on those smaller than me" types.

June 2, 2012 at 1:08 pmI TOTALLY AGREE with you, it made me so mad how he treated Dobby! This is an awesome pick because it is super true!!!! Ugghhh he made me so mad how he treated people and then acted like he could get away with it! Thank you for sharing!!!!

June 3, 2012 at 3:45 amAnd thanks for hosting! ;)

June 2, 2012 at 1:25 pmSO TRUE!!! Though, he would be in the running for "coolest cane" :P But the quality I found most irredeemable was definitely his treatment of Dobby. I loved Dobby and couldn't believe how mean he was! I wanted to jump into the book and kick him! haha Great meme! and perfect pick :D
All the best ♥

June 3, 2012 at 3:46 amYeah, I totally think he would win "Coolest Cane" or "Best Hair" if he wasn't such a jerk!

June 2, 2012 at 5:34 pmThis is an awesome meme, I definitely need to participate! I agree, Lucius is a big jerk, but then his son was hardly any better.

June 3, 2012 at 3:47 amYou should totally participate! It's lots of fun. But I have a feeling a lot of my answers will be Harry Potter characters! ;)

June 3, 2012 at 12:17 amUgh, great pick for this superlative! He is probably one of the worst villains in literature, simply because there was nothing redeeming for him in the end – he was Evil just to be Evil! And his treatment of Dobby was so, so sad.
Andrea @ The Overstuffed Bookcase
June 3, 2012 at 3:48 amYep, he really had no redeeming qualities, did he? Plus, the reason he was evil was never really explained, other than he was taught to be so bigoted from his family. But at least with Voldemort we got more of a reason as to why he was so evil…

June 3, 2012 at 7:45 pmHa ha! Love this! And I totally agree with you- he has no redeeming qualities at all.
I love the idea of this meme- my trouble is I'm usually useless at coming up with any good ideas!

June 3, 2012 at 7:49 pmIt's a great meme – and I have trouble coming up with answers to most memes as well. But I have a feeling most of my answers for this meme will be Harry Potter characters! ;)

June 11, 2012 at 4:19 pmHis wife on the other hand I disliked but respected more. She's slimey but her love for her son shines through.

June 11, 2012 at 9:29 pmI agree! Narcissa and Draco both kind of redeemed themselves in one way or another, but Lucius never does!

June 11, 2012 at 5:04 pmI would like to add… I loved him in the movie. I am the BIGGEST Jason Isaacs fan!
Andrea @ The Overstuffed Bookcase
June 11, 2012 at 9:30 pmI love Jason Isaacs too! He is SO good at playing the villain. I mean, come on, The Patriot! So creepy and evil and perfect in that part! And I think he's dead on as Lucius, too!

June 16, 2012 at 9:49 pmI DID IT!!! I Finally cleaned out my google reader! This was the last post I had in there! I am all caught up now! I am soooo excited!

June 30, 2012 at 11:05 pmWooohoo! That's awesome! I'm sure by now your reader is all full again, though! ;) Since I've had this book blog and have been following tons of blogs I think I've only totally caught up on my Google reader a few times. I sort of catch up a lot – what I mean is I read through all the posts but I still keep a lot of them in my reader as unread so that I can go back and comment on them. But then by the time I comment on all of them there are more posts to read on my reader! It's a vicious, never-ending cycle that Google reader!
